You're hunting elephants now!?!?
"Let the young man in his desperation go out and hunt.
If he kills the elephant, his poverty ends.
If the elephant kills him, his poverty ends"
Wassup monkey...
You're probably wondering why I started the blog with a quote.
It's pretty self-explanatory. But just to be safe, I want you to read that again to really understand what I'm trying to say over here.
Tell me if this describes you:
You're probably not a risk taker. You like to do just enough to be comfortable
You have a negative belief towards risk, which makes you not take risks.
Not taking risks means you stay in the same position in your life.
Staying in the same position makes you bored and unhappy.
Which in turn leads to a purposeless, meaningless and insignificant life.
At the same time, you see everyone else having the time of their life (which is an illusion by the way) and now you wanna kill yourself.
If this is in fact you (it probably is), let me change the way you think of risk.
Look... Human beings have more or less the same core desires no matter how unique they are.
And one of them is wanting to stay comfortable, lazy and be risk averse.
We don't really like to take risks... It's painful... And whatever is painful, we run away from.
But pain and suffering are a constant in life. It's unavoidable.
What you can do though is choose your pain.
And in this case, choose your risk.
What's more risky?
Taking a step towards what you want or inaction?
If it's not an obvious answer to you, Let me elaborate.
See, another core human desire is growth. Our brains are wired in such a way that we feel the happiest when we are going towards our goals.
Our brain does not release dopamine if we stay stuck.
It's almost as if the universe, the gods, nature and even your own body punishes you for being a lazy piece of shit.
So in the hierarchy of risks, inaction reigns supreme.
So for you to truly feel good about yourself, you have to have a goal and go towards it.
Whatever you think is risky to do... I can assure you the converse of that is riskier.
(Note: This is not a call to end up in jail. If you do I'm not bailing you out. Don't be stupid, take smart calculated risks. Don't jump on concrete head-first because you're a risk taker now.)
Remember, when in doubt... err on the side of boldness.
So go out there and hunt elephants.
If you are successful, your poverty ends.
And if you don't end up dead, you can always just try again.
That's it.
Bye.
