perfect.

Yo,
In this weeks edition I'm going to talk to you about something that I've been thinking about for a while now.
Let's talk about you for a second here.
You probably are someone that puts too much pressure on yourself and then you end up underperforming because you will accept nothing short of perfection.
Chasing an ideal that is just a figment of your imagination.
You may think that being a perfectionist is a good thing, but at the end of the day you don't end up even starting whatever you planned on doing.
The bigger the task or goal is for you, the more is your desire to make it perfect.
If this doesn't sound like you then great, you get a banana.
But if this is something that you can relate to then you will find this blog very useful.
Look, I will just come out and say it.
I want you to give up on the idea of perfection.
Really, I mean it.
In this world, not one thing is perfect.
It is a false ideal and chasing it will only result in disappointment and failure.
Every action is a failure when you compare it to something perfect.
Perfection leads to nothing but ruin.
Perfection leads to hating yourself because even you are not perfect and never will be. Self hate has never done anyone good.
Fuck perfection, I want to give you something even better.
Instead I want you to adopt the idea of - No matter how good it is, it can always be better.
Follow this and you will end up going much further than you would if you were chasing perfection.
If perfect is 100, then better is 101, 200, hell even a 1000.
If such a perfect score was ever received then that would mean that there is no going further.
That's it.
It's the death of growth.
People that chase perfection are, in truth, control freaks.
They want to control everything. They think that if they can control everything, nothing will ever go wrong.
But that is again absolutely impossible. Life is full of chaos. You can't even predict tomorrow.
You need to get comfortable with the chaos of life.
Just let go of your need to control absolutely everything.
Focus only on the things that you can do and forget about the things that you can't control.
If your input is the only thing that you can control then so be it.
If your attitude towards the circumstance is the only thing that you can control then so be it.
Never be lacking in effort. Put the effort into whatever you want to do and detach yourself from the outcome.
If you are someone that is outcome dependant then you will give up on the slightest of inconveniences.
Detach yourself from both your successes and failures.
You are a doer. That is your identity.
So stop living in your head and do whatever it is that you want to do.
Life is too short to not go for what you want.
Your attempts don't have to be perfect and they will not be perfect.
That's why I want you to forget about perfection because it leads to decision fatigue.
And that leads to inaction (If you've read my previous blog, you will know that I absolutely hate inaction).
Forget about whether you will get it. You will never regret putting the work into what you truly want.
On the other hand, living in your head all the time wondering about whether something will work will definitely make you regret and be miserable.
You are a doer and just the fact that you are able to work towards what you want is rewarding enough for you to keep going.
I personally derive immense joy from writing. It might be something else for you but you get my point.
Just the fact that i get to write is fruitful and rewarding for me.
I personally believe that if you put that much effort into something and do it for long enough then it is impossible for you to not succeed in it.
So don't be such a perfectionist, don't be so uptight and demand only betterment from yourself, not perfection.
It is only through betterment can you be better than perfect.
That's it for today.
Bye.
"The perfect being, you said?
I have to tell you the honest truth.
There is nothing in this world that is truly perfect.
It may be a cliche thing to say, but it's the way things are.
That's precisely why ordinary men pursue the concept of perfection, it's infatuation.
But ultimately, I have to ask myself, what is the true meaning of perfection? And the answer is, there is none.
Not one thing.
I spit in the eye of perfection. If something truly is perfect, that's it! No more intelligence, ability or improvement!
Do you understand?
To true scientists like you and I, perfection is tantamount to despair.
We aspire to reach greater levels of brilliance than ever before, but never, NEVER, to reach perfection.
That is the paradox through which we scientists must struggle.
Indeed, it is our duty to find pleasure in that struggle.
In other words, you may think we operate on the same level, but you're wrong.
The moment you started spouting that perfection nonsense, you had already lost to me. That is of course if you are a scientist at all."
